Motocross: Team Makita Suzuki Racing's Ricky Carmichael Leads Team USA to Motocross des Nat

Racing News 2005 Motocross des Nations
Ernee, France
Sept. 24-25, 2005
Team Makita Suzuki Racing’s Ricky Carmichael led Team USA to its first Motocross des Nations (MXdN) victory since 2000 at the Ernee circuit in France on Sunday, Sept. 25. The French home team came in second and Belgium was third.

As he did with AMA Motocross, Carmichael clearly dominated the MXdN field by winning both of his motos (1-1) on his Makita Suzuki RM-Z450. This 2005 MXdN victory is one more in a succession of impressive feats for Carmichael, who already captured this season’s THQ AMA Supercross Championship, the AMA Motocross Championship and the THQ World Supercross GP Championship.

"I wanted my two teammates (Kevin Windham and Ivan Tedesco) to have the same sensation that I had in France in 2000 when I won the Nations for the first time,” said Carmichael. “It was a good day. Everyone was talking about me but there were two other guys on this team that rose to the occasion. We come here for pride and because we want to and that is why it is so sweet to win. The fans were great. I have been on the upside and the downside of fans in my career and it was nice to feel wanted."

MXdN winner and AMA SX/MX Champion Carmichael now claims a combined 13 AMA SX/MX titles and a total of 127 SX/MX victories. Carmichael and Team Makita Suzuki will next contest the U.S. Open of Supercross at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nev., the weekend of Oct. 7-9.
