Arenacross: Pirelli Wins National Arenacross Championship In First Year Of Major Participation
Posted by: EvMon on Feb 05, 2005 - 06:26 PM
Racing News (Rome, GA) Pirelli’s assault on the North American dirt-tire market is off to the best possible start as a result of its 2004/05 National Arenacross Championship, thanks to the superb talent of Darcy Lange and the Richmond Kawasaki team. The championship was Lange’s second straight in the series, and comes with one round still remaining.

Given Pirelli’s “determined” assault on a larger North American dirt market share, winning a significant national championship in its first season of major team sponsorship, has the company feeling deservedly good.
“It couldn’t have been better. “said Jeff Adams, Pirelli Off-Road Product Manager, “ We didn’t back in. We took it to them. Darcy and Tim and the crew all pushed like crazy, and we had the tires they needed.”

It’s highly possible that Pirelli can also take second place in the championship with Lange’s Richmond teammate, Jeff Northrop, currently in second place with 516 points (to Lange’s 654). Shogun Yamaha’s Chad Johnson is still in the hunt with 474 points in third place.

Pirelli’s season tally thus far is pretty impressive, even more so when you factor in that it’s the company’s freshman year as a major participant. Pirelli Arenacross riders have won over 80% of the main events thus far and swept the podium in six of them. In fact, Pirelli won all 20 main events through the first five national rounds. Other Pirelli racers contributing to the accomplishment, besides are Lange and Northrop, are Richmond’s Evan Laughridge, in seventh place with 347 points; Jim Neese in 10th, John Dowd, and Marco Dube.
