Round 10 – AMA Toyota Motocross Championship Series
Binghamton, NY
Broome-Tioga Sports Center
August 20, 2006

Team Makita Suzuki Racing’s Ricky Carmichael clinched his 10th consecutive AMA Motocross Championship after winning the first 30-minute Motocross-class moto at Broome-Tioga in Binghamton, NY, on Sunday. Not satisfied to cruise after that, the newly crowned champion went on to win the second moto to take his eighth overall AMA Toyota MX victory for the season.

This championship is a particular milestone for Carmichael, because he will only race select races for Makita Suzuki next year. Carmichael’s impressive resume includes the 10 consecutive AMA Motocross titles – seven 250cc/Motocross and three 125cc titles. In fact, Carmichael has never lost an Outdoor title defense in his professional career.

This 2006 Motocross championship is his 15th AMA title and his 17th career title, and includes five AMA Supercross titles and the 2005 World Supercross title. In 2004, Carmichael won the 250 AMA Motocross Champion with a perfect season. Prior to that, in 1998, he won the 125 East Coast title and celebrated the only 125 SX perfect season in history. Carmichael led Team USA to victory in the 2005 Motocross des Nations and he has been the AMA Pro Racing Speed Channel Athlete of the Year an amazing four times. Finally, this is Carmichael’s 143rd combined SX/MX career win.

Ricky Carmichael:

“Winning another motocross championship is awesome. It was hard-fought, there was tough competition and I’m happy to do it. I never expected to do this, I don’t think anyone at Suzuki expected to have the run we’ve had. We’ve been really fortunate and we’ve made our own luck and done really good as a team. That’s what it takes at this level. Now I’m just looking forward to racing for fun and putting on some good shows for the fans.

“The way I look at it, if I keep racing I’m going to get beat. That’s the same with everybody. You have to know when your time is, and you can’t be greedy. I’m happy with what I’ve accomplished but now I have some other opportunities and other challenges. I’m looking forward to racing just to race and to helping Suzuki. I’m happy to go out on top and that’s all that matters.”

Racing News BINGHAMTON, N.Y., (Aug. 21, 2006) – American Suzuki Motor Corporation (ASMC) is proud to announce that Team Makita Suzuki Racing’s Ricky Carmichael captured his seventh consecutive AMA Toyota Motocross Championship at Broome-Tioga Sports Center in Binghamton, N.Y., on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 20, 2006. With two rounds remaining in the 12-round series, Carmichael and his Makita Suzuki RM-Z450 finished first overall to clinch the championship.

“Winning another motocross championship is awesome,” said Carmichael. “It was hard-fought, there was tough competition and I’m happy to do it. I never expected to do this, I don’t think anyone at Suzuki expected to have the run we’ve had. We’ve been really fortunate and we’ve made our own luck and done really good as a team. That’s what it takes at this level. Now I’m just looking forward to racing for fun and putting on some good shows for the fans.”

This is the second consecutive AMA Motocross Championship that Carmichael has won with the Makita Suzuki RM-Z450 and Team Makita Suzuki Racing. Since signing with Makita Suzuki, Carmichael won the 2005 AMA Supercross title, the 2005 World Supercross GP title, the 2005 AMA Motocross title, the 2005 U.S. Open of Supercross and he led Team USA to victory in the 2005 Motocross des Nations. Most recently, Carmichael wrapped up the 2006 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Championship and he is again slated to lead Team USA in the upcoming 2006 Motocross des Nations.

Round 9 – AMA Toyota Motocross Championship Series
Millville, MN
Spring Creek MX Park
August 13, 2006

Team Makita Suzuki Racing’s Ricky Carmichael became the first rider in the U.S. to ever lap an entire Motocross-class field at Spring Creek MX Park in Millville, Minn., on Sunday afternoon. After Carmichael won the first 30-minute MX moto of the day, a heavy downpour created swamp-like conditions for the second moto. In spite of this, the defending AMA Motocross champion persevered and went on to lap the second-place rider before taking the moto win and the overall victory. This is Carmichael’s 142nd combined AMA Supercross/Motocross career win.

Ricky Carmichael:

“It was a great race and I felt good. I knew the holeshot was important, and mine haven’t been so great lately. Getting a good start is super, super important, and I did what I had to do. The Makita Suzuki RM-Z450 came through and I just kept trying to plug away. Mostly, I was just concerned about making it through the moto and making the bike last.”

Round 7 – AMA Toyota Motocross Championship Series
Lakewood, CO
Thunder Valley MX Park
July 23, 2006

Team Makita Suzuki Racing’s Ricky Carmichael won his sixth AMA Toyota Motocross race in a row this season when he took the overall victory at Lakewood, Colorado’s Thunder Valley MX Park on Sunday afternoon. As usual, the defending AMA Motocross Champion won both of his 30-minute Motocross-class motos. This win extended the 2006 Amp’d Mobile Supercross Champion’s points lead in the title chase and it is also Carmichael’s 141st combined AMA Supercross/Motocross career victory.

Ricky Carmichael:

“It’s always tough coming here to Thunder Valley. There are a bunch of elements you have to contend with. Number one is the elevation, obviously, and that takes a toll on you and the bike, as far as power goes. And obviously fitness is a factor and I have to give it up to my trainer, Elden Baker. But it’s still fun to come to a new venue and the track is good. There are several different lines and it’s a good race track overall.”

Racing News BREA, Calif., (July 19, 2006) – American Suzuki Motor Corp. (ASMC) announced today that Team Makita Suzuki Racing signed Ryan Dungey to race the Makita Suzuki RM-Z250 in the Motocross Lites class for the remainder of the 2006 AMA Toyota Motocross Series. The 16-year-old Dungey’s first official race with Makita Suzuki will be at Spring Creek MX Park in Millville, Minn., on August 13, 2006. Dungey signed a two-year contract and will also race the Makita Suzuki RM-Z250 in the 2007 AMA Supercross Championship.

“Ryan is an extremely talented young rider with an amazing work ethic and I believe he has a lot of long-term potential,” said Makita Suzuki Team Manager Roger DeCoster. “He’s had success with amateur racing and we believe that with a lot of guidance and a strong training regimen, he will eventually be a very successful factory rider. Right now, we just want Ryan to focus on learning to race on a factory level, without any pressure. Then we will begin grooming him for championships later on.”

Round 6 – AMA Toyota Motocross Championship Series
New Berlin, NY
Unadilla Valley Sports Center
July 16, 2006

Team Makita Suzuki Racing’s Ricky Carmichael continued his winning ways at New York’s Unadilla Valley Sports Center on Sunday afternoon, winning his fifth consecutive overall AMA Toyota Motocross race of 2006. Extending his points lead in the title chase, the 2006 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Champion and defending AMA Motocross Champion won both of his 30-minute Motocross-class motos to take the overall, marking Carmichael’s 140th combined AMA Supercross/Motocross career victory.

Ricky Carmichael:

“This has been an awesome day. In the first moto, I got a good start on my Makita Suzuki RM-Z450 and I thought the track overall was really good. It’s just unfortunate that James (Stewart) wasn’t out there. He went down hard in practice but I’m hoping he’ll have a speedy recovery. In the second moto, Davi (Millsaps) was running great but we prevailed and were able to get a good lead. I actually fell in the second moto and I’m not sure anyone saw me. But I was able to get up and get a good pace going and it didn’t really affect the outcome. Overall, the Makita Suzuki has been great all year, actually for the last two years.”

Round 4 – AMA Motocross Championship Series
Budds Creek, MD
Budds Creek MX Park
June 17-18, 2006

Team Makita Suzuki Racing’s Ricky Carmichael won his third consecutive AMA Toyota Motocross race of the 2006 season at a hot and humid Budds Creek on Sunday afternoon. The 2006 Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Champion and defending AMA Motocross Champion won both of his 30-minute Motocross-class motos to take the overall victory. This Father’s Day win marks Carmichael’s 138th combined AMA Supercross/Motocross career victory.

Ricky Carmichael:
“This win is special, since this year the competition has been tough. Chad (Reed, second-place overall) definitely stepped it up this weekend. He always rides well at Budds Creek and I knew it was going to be tough. This track has changed a lot since I first came here. It isn’t nearly as deep as it was and the turns kind of slot themselves into a single groove. It’s actually getting like this at most of the tracks we go to. The dirt just seems to be fading away or something. We just tried to put ourselves in a good position and it turned out to be a great weekend for Makita Suzuki. Now, I think we are all looking forward to the weekend off.”

Southwick, MA
Motocross 338
June 10 -11, 2006

Team Makita Suzuki Racing’s Ricky Carmichael won his second consecutive AMA Toyota Motocross of the 2006 season at Southwick on Sunday afternoon in New England. Taking second place in the first moto and first place in the second moto, Carmichael captured his ninth career overall Southwick victory and extended his points lead in the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship.

In the first 30-minute moto, the defending AMA Motocross Champion and his Makita Suzuki RM-Z450 were running in second place right off the bat. Pacing the leader for the first 10 laps, Carmichael made a strong pass to take over the lead. Although he went down with just a few laps to go, he remounted and charged hard, going from 30 seconds behind first place to just three seconds behind first place in a mere two laps.

In the afternoon’s second moto at sandy Southwick, Carmichael continued his winning ways by taking the lead within the first five laps. The newly crowned AMA Supercross Champion created a gap over the rest of the field, and won the moto with almost 20 seconds over second place.

Team Makita Suzuki Racing’s Ricky Carmichael captured his first AMA Toyota Motocross victory of the season and took over the points lead in front of an enthusiastic crowd at the 30th running of the High Point National in Mt. Morris, PA, on Sunday over Memorial Day weekend.

In the afternoon’s first 30-minute moto, Carmichael got an excellent start on his Makita Suzuki RM-Z450 and led the first couple of laps. Despite being passed mid-moto, he continued to charge hard and battle for the lead throughout the race. With just four laps remaining, Carmichael’s competition made a mistake and went down. Carmichael continued his strong ride and took the win.

“I feel bad for James (Stewart),” said the defending AMA Motocross Champion. “I know some people say you should take the win no matter how you can get it but no one wants to see a rider crash. James and I had a killer race going out there and I just hope we can have as good a race in the second moto.”

“I crashed in the first turn and it was a rookie mistake,” said Carmichael afterward. “It was a long moto but we’ll go back and regroup and try to put on another good race.”

American Honda is pleased to officially announce its lineup of factory motocross team members for 2006, as well as the full roster of Factory Connection-officially the SoBe/Samsung Mobile/Honda Racing Team in 2006-riders and a wealth of additional satellite team Honda racers. The seven satellite teams for 2006-including such top riders as Tim Ferry and David Vuillemin-demonstrates Honda's unparalleled commitment to the sport of Supercross/motocross in the United States.

American Honda's factory team begins with a man synonymous with winning: Eight-time AMA Supercross/motocross champion and Hall of Fame rider Jeremy McGrath returns aboard the omnipotent two-stroke CR(r)250R. McGrath will contest six west coast Supercross events beginning with Anaheim 1, and he also lends his considerable expertise to the team's ongoing testing and development work.

Motocross: Team Makita Suzuki Racing's Ricky Carmichael Leads Team USA to Motocross des Nat

Racing News 2005 Motocross des Nations
Ernee, France
Sept. 24-25, 2005
Team Makita Suzuki Racing’s Ricky Carmichael led Team USA to its first Motocross des Nations (MXdN) victory since 2000 at the Ernee circuit in France on Sunday, Sept. 25. The French home team came in second and Belgium was third.

As he did with AMA Motocross, Carmichael clearly dominated the MXdN field by winning both of his motos (1-1) on his Makita Suzuki RM-Z450. This 2005 MXdN victory is one more in a succession of impressive feats for Carmichael, who already captured this season’s THQ AMA Supercross Championship, the AMA Motocross Championship and the THQ World Supercross GP Championship.

"I wanted my two teammates (Kevin Windham and Ivan Tedesco) to have the same sensation that I had in France in 2000 when I won the Nations for the first time,” said Carmichael. “It was a good day. Everyone was talking about me but there were two other guys on this team that rose to the occasion. We come here for pride and because we want to and that is why it is so sweet to win. The fans were great. I have been on the upside and the downside of fans in my career and it was nice to feel wanted."

MXdN winner and AMA SX/MX Champion Carmichael now claims a combined 13 AMA SX/MX titles and a total of 127 SX/MX victories. Carmichael and Team Makita Suzuki will next contest the U.S. Open of Supercross at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nev., the weekend of Oct. 7-9.

Team Makita Suzuki Racing’s Ricky Carmichael captured his sixth consecutive AMA Motocross Championship at Steel City Raceway on Sunday with one round remaining in the 12-round series. Carmichael and his Makita Suzuki RM-Z450 won both motos and finished first overall to clinch the title. Carmichael now claims a combined 13 AMA Supercross/Motocross Championships. With just one round of AMA Motocross to go for 2005, Carmichael is undefeated and has won all 11 events and a combined 126 SX/MX career victories so far.

Ricky Carmichael:
“This was amazing, you know, a boring race is good for somebody. I’m doing something I love to do. I don’t know what to say, except the wins keep coming, I’ve had great career and I’ll try to get as many more as I can. I love it and appreciate it and thanks to the AMA and all my sponsors. I know that when I signed with Suzuki, I didn’t know it was going to be as good as it was. I was confident in my abilities and in the team and you’ve just got to give it up for Suzuki and all my sponsors - it’s a long list, my wife, my parents… It’s been a long career and a fun one.”

Additionally, this overall MX win is Carmichael’s 123rd combined AMA Supercross/AMA Motocross career victory.

Not surprisingly, Carmichael continued his winning ways in the first Washougal moto by taking the lead immediately and holding it until the end. Indeed, he won the first 250cc moto by almost 30 seconds. The second moto saw Carmichael come out in third place, and then pass two riders in one turn to take the lead before the end of the second lap. The rest, as they say, is history.

Team Makita Suzuki Racing’s Ricky Carmichael won his seventh consecutive AMA Motocross race of the season at Thunder Valley on Sunday after taking both moto wins. This overall MX win is Carmichael’s 122nd combined AMA Supercross/AMA Motocross career win

In the first 250 moto, Carmichael got a good start on his Makita Suzuki RM-Z450 and had taken the lead by the third lap. In true Carmichael fashion, he led the rest of the laps and finished almost 20 seconds in front of second place. In the second moto, Carmichael had to fight a little harder for his win. Again with a good start, he settled into second place for the first half of the race while reeling in the race leader. Once he’d moved into first place, however, he created a gap and held on for the remainder of the race.

Team Makita Suzuki Racing celebrated their best AMA Motocross Championship Series event of the season, at Unadilla on Sunday afternoon with Ricky Carmichael taking the overall win in the 250 class, Broc Hepler taking the overall win in the 125 class and Davi Millsaps finishing a close second-overall to 125 teammate Hepler. For Carmichael, this victory marks his sixth win of the season and his 121st combined AMA Supercross/AMA Motocross career win.

In the first 250 moto, Carmichael took the lead before the end of the first lap but then went down on lap two. Even so, he rode his Makita Suzuki RM-Z450 hard and reeled in the front-runners. Then, after making a successful pass to take the lead from James Stewart, Stewart tried to re-take the lead and succeeded only in taking out both himself and Carmichael. Even so, Carmichael finished a strong second. In the second moto, Carmichael charged hard and spent the first half of the race in second place. He took the lead by the halfway point of the race and pulled away to win the moto.

Racing News Round 1 - AMA Motocross Championship Series
Sacramento, CA
Hangtown
May 21-22, 2005
Team Makita Suzuki Racing’s Ricky Carmichael proved once again that he is the champion by winning both motos of the season-opening round of the AMA Motocross Championship Series at Hangtown in Northern California on Sunday, May 22. The newly crowned 2005 THQ AMA Supercross Champion Carmichael, who has two perfect MX seasons and eight MX titles under his belt already, rode flawlessly at Hangtown to win both motos and decimate the competition.

Ricky Carmichael:
“It was a good race. I had a good feeling about the weekend, though I didn’t expect it turn out like this. I have really been looking forward to the Outdoor Nationals. There is nothing better than a super-rough track on a blazing hot Sunday afternoon in front of a ton of hard-core fans to get me excited about racing! This is where it all began for me and I feel right at home on the Outdoor tracks. It didn’t hurt that the Makita Suzuki RMZ-450 is a great motorcycle. Also, Sebastian has really helped bring the bike along and the team has been working hard on it. There are a lot of places we can be better and we’re going to learn every weekend, but right now we’re in a great position. Now, I’m just getting ready for High Point and looking forward to getting to the East Coast and racing the tracks that I love.”

Motocross: The Mammoth Motocross is back!
Posted by: EvMon on Tuesday, March 08, 2005 - 01:28 AM
Racing News The tradition continues June 16-26, 2005 when the Ford Mammoth Motocross swings open the gates to the famed track. Many said it couldn't be done, but through the cooperation of many entities, the Mammoth Motocross is alive and well.

After 37 years of Motocross racing history in Mammoth Lakes, the 2004 event was billed as the "Last Annual" after Mammoth Mountain Ski Area was informed that a permit would no longer be issued to the event organizer. Since then, the Town of Mammoth Lakes, Mammoth Mountain Ski Area and the US Forest Service have been working together to keep the race intact. The new proposal allows the Town of Mammoth Lakes to hold the event permit and the Ski Area to run the race during the traditional two week time period in June. This is great news for the generations of racers and spectators that have built family traditions around this annual gathering.

Motocross: Team Suzuki MX1 rider Joel Smets gained third position overall.
Posted by: EvMon on Monday, February 14, 2005 - 07:24 PM
Racing News Team Suzuki MX1 rider Joel Smets gained third position overall at the first pre-season international race of 2005 yesterday at Mantova in Italy.

The 35 year old qualified third fastest and scored results of 2-4-3 under bright conditions against a strong line-up of Grand Prix peers such as reigning World Champions Stefan Everts and Ben Townley, Mickael Pichon, Javier Garcia Vico and Steve Ramon.

It was an effective reintroduction to top-flight competition for the Belgian at the circuit where he broke the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee 12 months ago; an injury that led to an aborted attempt at the inaugural MX1 World Championship.

Motocross: Team Suzuki rider Kevin Strijbos Injured During Practice
Posted by: EvMon on Saturday, February 05, 2005 - 06:22 PM
Racing News Team Suzuki rider Kevin Strijbos is facing a five week layoff after a practice crash in America ten days ago resulted in strained ankle ligaments.

The 18 year old Belgian, one of the breakthrough stars of the 2004 MX1 World Championship, is due to visit doctors again in Belgium this Friday. He expects to be told that he can start light training on the painful joint, but will need another three to four weeks before he can remount the RM-Z450.

Strijbos caught his right foot in the rear wheel of the four-stroke and was forced to prematurely curtail his Stateside practice trip. News of the spill at the Suzuki track in California filtered through to the Belgian team who initially feared a repeat of the injury disaster almost one year ago that blighted the 2004 campaign of their lead rider Joel Smets. Fortunately initial medical examinations in Europe revealed a less serious ailment. Strijbos has reorganised his pre-season commitments and is now likely to make his first race appearance of the year at Hawkstone Park in the UK on 6th March.
