Jurors heard opening arguments Tuesday in a lawsuit alleging Clear Channel Communications illegally blocked Chicago-based rival JamSports from promoting "supercross" dirt-bike events.
The legal battle, set in the courtroom of U.S. District Judge Matthew Kennelly, pits Chicago impresario Jerry Mickelson against Clear Channel Communications, a media behemoth that dominates arena concerts and radio across the country. According to Mickelson -- founder of local concert promoter Jam Productions -- Clear Channel used its market power to keep JamSports out of the supercross business.
But Clear Channel's lawyer Chris Gair painted his client's business practices as typical.
